Go to Settings → Partner. Share your invite code with your partner, or enter theirs to send a connection request. Once they accept, you're connected and can start sharing trips.
When you start a trip, the app monitors your location in the background. Once you get within 100 meters of your destination, it automatically marks you as arrived and notifies your partner — no action needed on your end.
Make sure you and your partner are connected in the Partner section. Your partner also needs location set to "Always" — without it, their position won't be shared while the app is in the background.
Several factors can cause this. Location permissions may have been changed after the trip started — check that it's still set to "Always". iOS can also throttle background location updates in Low Power Mode or with poor connectivity. Make sure Low Power Mode is off and that you have a stable signal.
Notifications
First, make sure notifications are allowed in iOS Settings → BesideU → Notifications. Then open the Notifications settings in the app and confirm that the relevant toggles are on.
This is typically caused by iOS Low Power Mode or Background App Refresh being disabled. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for BesideU in iOS Settings.
Live Activity
Live Activities must be enabled in iOS Settings → BesideU → Live Activities. Make sure this is turned on. Your partner also needs to have started a trip for the widget to appear.
The widget must remain visible to receive updates — if you swiped it away from the Dynamic Island or Lock Screen, iOS ends the Live Activity and updates stop. Also make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for BesideU in iOS Settings, and that Live Activities are still enabled in iOS Settings → BesideU → Live Activities.
Subscription
Free accounts include 5 shared trips to get you started. To keep going, you can subscribe to BesideU — one subscription covers both you and your partner.
Open iOS Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions → BesideU → Cancel Subscription. Your access remains active until the end of the current billing period.
